Agroecology in Serbia is older than thought !
This is the conclusion of Alexander Wezel, Director of Research at ISARA, France, after his visit of the University of Novi Sad.
There are concreate examples of agroecology on farms in the region of Vojvodina, Serbia. Examples of today’s implementation on farms are diversified crop rotation, or agroforestry systems . The later has also some local food production from their diverse multiple productions on their farm.

For science, a book on General Agriculture that date back to 1962 (Stojković, 1996) included explicitly a section on agroecology. Probably the first book titled Agroecology (Molnar and Milošev 1995), and others used for teaching such as Practical Course in Agroecology (Milošev 1996) and Practicum in Agroecology (Ojača and Dolijanović 2003) followed up.
And for today, to be mentioned is the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Novi Sad (FAUNS) that was recently also documented in the 3rd volume of the Agroecology in Europe book series with the country report on Serbia.
They have already long-lasting research in agroecology. Leading researcher there is Srdjan Šeremešić, a member of Agroecology Europe since many years.
